Wauconda Scouts get a lesson in rocketry

Twenty Cub Scouts from Wauconda Pack 290 recently took part in the 2011 Eat Cheese or Fly Event put on by the Wisconsin Organization Of Spacemodeling Hobbyists.

This is the second year the Cub Scouts have attended the launch at Richard Bong Recreation Area, just north of Paddock Lake, WI.

The Scouts were able to show off their modeling skills while the WOOSH rocket club supplied the launchpads and staff to assure a safe event.

The club did not disappoint, launching rockets of all sizes, including some that traveled thousands of feet into the sky.

The Scouts also got good lessons in aerodynamics and physics. The wind made it just challenging enough that the young boys were able to find their rockets after a healthy hike.
