Girls volleyball/Lake County roundup

Stevenson d. Zion-Benton: Rachel Baader slammed 16 kills on 29-of-31 hitting, served 11 of 11 with 1 ace and chalked 9 digs, as the Patriots rallied for a 22-25, 25-13, 25-16 win in a North Suburban Lake Division opener.

Stevenson (6-3) also received 7 kills from Liza Pflugradt (19-of-20 hitting), four from Jenna Radtke (9-9) and three from Anne Geocaris (8-11). Emily Wings and Michelle Schroeder served 4 and 3 aces, respectively, for Stevenson. Jamie Baranowski dished out 16 assists, and Mackenzie Kurth recorded a team-best 14 digs.

Lakes d. Deerfield: Emily Aigner had 8 kills and 3 aces, and the Eagles improved to 3-0 with a 25-17, 25-11 win in nonconference play.

Lakes also received 5 kills and 13 assists from Rachel Sieracke. Sarah Horner had 5 kills too, while Meghan Merges posted 3 blocks. Shannon Grant matched her teammate Aigner with 3 aces.

Grayslake Central d. Hampshire: The Rams won their Fox Valley Fox Division opener 26-24, 21-25, 25-14, as Alexandria Dahlstrom recorded 4 kills and 5 blocks.

Meghan Brewster served 4 aces for Grayslake Central (4-4), while Gabi Casper delivered three (15-of-16 serving). Marina Treato led the Rams with 19 digs.

“We had a good night at the serving line against a young, quick Hampshire team,” Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. “We keep improving.”

Jacobs d. Grayslake North: The Knights lost 25-16, 25-12, despite 3 kills apiece from Katie McGrath, Kelsey Klausner and Joanna Guhl.

Kayla Huck had 11 digs for Grayslake North (1-6).

Richmond-Burton d. Wauconda: Megan Tallman had 6 kills for the Bulldogs in their 25-18, 25-13 loss. Erinn Hellweg added 5 kills and 3 blocks for Wauconda, while Emily Holub posted 4 blocks in the losing effort. Tallman also served 2 aces.

Lake Zurich d. Warren: Pittsburgh-bound Amanda Orchard hammered 6 kills, and Layne Self added 4 kills and 6 aces, leading the Bears to a 25-15, 25-17 win in a North Suburban Lake opener.

Lake Zurich (6-3) also got 3 kills from Nicole Morrissey.

Warren was led by Jaime Dickinson’s 4 kills.

Vernon Hills d. Round Lake: Megan Meline’s 8 kills and 2 aces and Jenn Claussen’s 6 kills helped the Cougars triumph 25-20, 25-14 in a North Suburban Prairie opener.

Sarah Lehman distributed 13 assists for Vernon Hills (5-4).

Round Lake got 5 kills from Dominique Gonzales, while Cathy Gonzales had 4 kills and 17 digs. Izzy Rodriguez served 2 aces and notched 9 digs for the Panthers. Bianca Duna contributed 9 assists (47-of-47 setting).

Grant d. North Chicago: The Bulldogs won their North Suburban Prairie opener 25-7, 25-14, as Gianna Gigliotti delivered 10 aces. Taylor Rossi had 3 kills for Grant, and Jamie Reiser distributed 10 assists.

Lake Forest d. Mundelein: Brittany Busscher had 4 kills, and Madi Wilcox and Courtney Perreault chipped in three apiece, but the Mustangs lost 25-17, 17-25, 25-14 in a North Suburban Lake opener.

Ashley Dolin delivered 3 blocks for Mundelein (5-5), and Karen Chin set 39 of 39 with 10 assists. Wilcox was 26-of-27 setting with 6 assists.

Libertyville d. Glenbrook North: Taylor Zant and Eileen Knauff slammed 5 and 4 kills, respectively, and Cindy Zhou lofted 14 assists, as the Wildcats won the nonconference match 25-18, 25-18.

Dana Kym contributed 3 blocks for Libertyville.
