Boys soccer/Lake County roundup

Round Lake 4, Vernon Hills 0: Jordi Rubio scored both goals for the Panthers in the opening half, as the hosts went on to win the North Suburban Prairie Division opener.

Round Lake got second-half strikes from Lorenzo Cortez and Mauricio Salgado. Abraham Valadez and Ediberto Ramirez had assists, while Ivan Gomez and Jose Martinez shared the shutout in goal.

Vernon Hills fell to 1-5.

Antioch 8, Westosha Central 1: Zak Semitka scored 3 goals, Ryan Geidner added a pair, and Iven Hernandez had a goal and 3 assists for the Sequoits in the nonconference match.

Antioch’s other goal scorers were Jake Jost and Nick Brito. Jost also had an assist, as did Adam Harvey. Billy Mohr had 2 assists, as Antioch improved to 4-2-2.

Grant 2, North Chicago 1: Andres Velarde and Omar Valadez scored for the Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie opener.

Nick Kramer assisted on both goals for Grant (5-3).

Mundelein 3, Loyola 2: In a Pepsi Showdown match, Leo Rodriguez scored twice, and Christian Mata’s second-half goal was the difference for the Mustangs (3-7), who visit Lyons on Thursday for a winner’s bracket game at 4:45 p.m.

Stevenson 2, Zion-Benton 1: Joe Hugener scored both goals for the Patriots in the North Suburban Lake match.

Tom Shaw and Ricky Lekakh had assists for Stevenson (5-0-2, 2-0).

Lake Zurich 3, Mt. Carmel 1: Brendan Seeger figured on all 3 goals for the Bears, notching a goal and 2 assists.

Lake Zurich (2-2-3) also got goals from Jorge Bermudez and Caleb Pothast. Justin Marais assisted on Seeger’s tally.
