Jury selection to continue in Sheley murder trial

GALESBURG — Jury selection is set to resume in Galesburg in the first trial of an Illinois man accused of killing eight people during a 2008 crime spree that spanned two states.

Four more jurors and four alternates must be sworn in before the trial can begin for Nicholas Sheley (SHEE'-lee). Selection is scheduled to continue Tuesday morning in Knox County. The Sterling man is being tried first for the killing of 65-year-old Ronald Randall of Galesburg.

So far, hundreds of potential jurors have been summoned and 49 people were questioned. Six men and two women were sworn in as jurors.

Sheley also has pleaded not guilty in five other deaths in Illinois and two in Missouri.
