Brady: Gov. Quinn becoming ‘blowhard’

One Illinois Republican isn’t happy about reports that Gov. Pat Quinn might cut jobs to deal with a record budget deficit.

During an appearance in Chicago on Tuesday, Quinn said reductions are needed but wouldn’t specify how many jobs might be cut or what facilities might be closed. He was questioned about a Chicago Tribune report that layoffs and closures are planned.

State Sen. Bill Brady says talk about layoffs is just a political ploy. And Brady tells WJBC Radio in Bloomington that Quinn is “turning into a blowhard that has no credibility in the General Assembly.”

Quinn blamed the cuts on the General Assembly, saying lawmakers hadn’t appropriated enough money to cover Illinois’ expenses for the rest of the fiscal year.

But Quinn says he’s willing to work with lawmakers to avoid the cuts, and he says talks will happen this week.

Quinn says certain state agencies will run out of money by the end of the fiscal year if no reductions are made.
