Fire severely damages Lake Zurich home

A Lake Zurich family was displaced from their home Sunday night after a fire severely damaged a large portion of their house, according to fire officials.

At least two people were inside the home on the 900 block of Glencoe Terrace when the fire started near a bedroom, but they were able to escape and call 911, said Lake Zurich Fire Chief Dave Wheelock.

“The homeowners found the fire and attempted to fight it, which delayed calling 911 and our response,” said Lake Zurich Fire Captain John Kelly.

When firefighters arrived just after 6 p.m., there was heavy fire visible, but crews were able to bring the flames under control in less than 15 minutes, Kelly said.

Several rooms in the ranch-style home had major fire damage, and the rest of the house was damaged by the smoke, Wheelock said.

Nearly all of the family’s contents were lost in the blaze, Kelly said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday night and a damage estimate was not available.

Wheelock said the Red Cross was helping the family find a place to stay.

Crews from Long Grove, Barrington, Lincolnshire and Wauconda assisted the Lake Zurich department at the scene.
