Indiana court employees face limit to social networking

MUNCIE, Ind. — Delaware County court employees face strict new limits on social media use, even when they’re off the clock.

The Star Press reports the new policy bars court employees from posting photographs of themselves in intoxicated conditions. Employees can’t use hand-held devices to access the Internet while working and are banned from using court equipment and email addresses for personal use of social network sites.

Workers can’t make comments about or to other employees that can be perceived as negative. The policy says those who leave their court jobs must still abide by the rules.

Violators can face warnings, unpaid suspensions or termination.

Delaware Circuit Court 1 Judge Marianne Vorhees says she implemented the measure after hearing about problems with social media use by court workers in other jurisdictions.
