Order mix-up leads to charges against Wendy's employee in Gurnee

It happens all the time. You pull away from the drive-through window at a fast-food restaurant to find that they forgot the fries or gave you the wrong burger.

An incorrect order escalated into a heated argument at the Wendy's in Gurnee, leading to the arrest of the employee, who police say assaulted a pregnant customer when she complained.

Jasmin Sahota, 19, of Round Lake Beach was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor following an altercation that occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Aug. 27, police said.

A 26-year-old pregnant woman from Gages Lake placed her order at the drive-through at the restaurant at 6585 Grand Ave. Before driving away, she discovered her order was wrong and pulled into the parking lot and entered the fast food restaurant, police said.

The woman, seven months pregnant, spoke with the manager about the error with her order and complained about the “general attitude” of the employee, said Gurnee Cmdr. William Meyer.

Sahota apparently overheard the complaint and charged at the pregnant woman while yelling and swearing. “She apparently tried to come around the counter toward the victim,” Meyer said.

A few minutes later, the dispute between the two women continued in the parking lot of the Wendy's as the victim attempted to get into her car, Meyer said.

Off-duty Lake Zurich Police Cmdr. Guillermo Quinones saw the argument taking place and “got between” the two women, Meyer said. Quinones called Gurnee police who arrested Sahota.

The manager of the Wendy's restaurant had no comment Saturday.
