Charges expected in shotgun killings of 2 children

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — An East St. Louis woman being held in the shotgun deaths of her two youngest children could soon be facing charges.

St. Clair County’s prosecutor is expected to join East St. Louis and Illinois State Police officials during a news briefing Friday about the status of the investigation of Wednesday night’s killings.

Investigators say East St. Louis police found the bodies of a 4-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy in the family’s apartment. Their 8-year-old sibling escaped unharmed.

The mother was arrested later in St. Louis after she allegedly hit two pedestrians with her car. Those victims were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

St. Louis prosecutors charged the woman with armed criminal action and first-degree assault in connection with that wreck.
