Ill. Marine reserves train for Afghanistan

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — About 100 Marine Corps reservists will start training this fall for a 10-month stay in Afghanistan in 2012.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that the members of Company C of the 6th Engineer Support Battalion will head to Camp Pendleton in California in October. They will train for several weeks.

The Peoria County-based unit is expected to leave for Afghanistan sometime around March and be home by November.

Capt. Matt Riggs says most of the reservists are truck drivers and construction-equipment operators. They will work with a logistics battalion.
