Downtown Batavia Block Party set for Sunday

Guests at the annual Downtown Batavia Block Party will find a few new things Sunday.

For one, the Batavia Academy of Dance plans to do a flash mob performance before taking the stage.

And guests can enjoy adult libations throughout the party grounds.

The block party, sponsored by Batavia MainStreet, is from 4 to 9 p.m. on River Street between Wilson and State streets. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Those wishing to drink alcohol must pay $5 for a wristband and Block Party Cup at the MainStreet tent.

Eleven restaurants will offer drink specials and $2 tastings, either on River Street or at their home establishment. A map and menu is available at downtownbatavia.com/upload/BP11_MAP_flyer8-29f.pdf. Participating restaurants include Andre's, Tusk Thai, Fox's on the River, Batavia Creamery, McDonald's, the Lodge on the Fox, Bulldogs Red Hots, O'Brien's Pub, Limestone, North Island Deli and the RendezVu.

One Brick Short will play Top 40 songs, and Field Day will play covers of classics.

There will be face-painting, bubbles and chalk art for children. Adults can partake in a 50/50 raffle, or play for cash prizes in a bags tournament. The entry fee for the tournament is $25
