Retrial starts in killing of 4 at NW Ind. house

CROWN POINT, Ind. — The retrial has started for a northwestern Indiana man on charges of killing three adults and a toddler during a 2004 crack house robbery.

Testimony began Tuesday in a Lake County court in the trial of 36-year-old Antonio Jones of Gary on four murder counts.

A jury convicted him of the killings in 2004, but a federal appeals court overturned that verdict and his 240-year sentence after concluding jurors were wrongly led to treat hearsay as fact.

The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/r8yDCB ) that the first day of the retrial included testimony from the mother of 23-month-old Anthony McClendon Jr. about discovering his bloodied body and racing him to a hospital.

The trial is scheduled to continue into next week.
