New Route 60/Peterson Road intersection to open in Lake County

Drivers who use Peterson Road near Grayslake and Round Lake Park will soon see a different intersection at Route 60.

The intersection has been moved slightly to the southeast and new turn lanes and traffic signals have been added.

The intersection improvements and road realignment should alleviate traffic backups there. The new intersection will open to traffic Thursday, Sept. 1.

To make these improvements, the intersection had to be moved away from Squaw Creek, which is adjacent to the existing intersection.

Lake County Department of Transportation crews also installed a new traffic signal for Saddlebrook residents and other property owners to provide them with efficient and safe access to the new Peterson Road alignment.

As part of this project, transportation department crews also reconfigured Chardon Road, which is northwest of Peterson Road at Route 60, to improve travel and safety.

Motorists should continue to use caution in this construction area over the next several weeks.
