Naperville police: Aurora motorcyclist clocked at 111 mph

An Aurora motorcyclist with a history of having a lead foot added another speeding citation to his rap sheet Sunday morning.

Bradley Smith, 26, was charged with speeding more than 40 mph over the posted limit after a Naperville police officer observed Smith’s 2009 purple Yamaha traveling 111 mph in a 45 mph zone at 7:23 a.m. as he headed north on Route 59 near 95th Street.

According to the arrest report, Smith told the arresting officer he “wanted to get home quickly because he was tired from working.”

Smith pleaded guilty in November 2010 to speeding 26 to 30 mph over the limit and was sentenced to court supervision, fines and costs. According to court records, state police observed him on radar driving the same motorcycle 85 mph at 5:20 a.m. Sept. 29, 2010, on northbound I-355 in Lisle Township.

He also pleaded guilty in July 2005 in Kane County to speeding 21 to 25 mph over the limit and was sentenced to five months of court supervision, fines and costs. That case stemmed from a May 29, 2005, incident in Batavia, according to court records.

In May 2003, Smith pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in Kane County and was sentenced to one year of court supervision, alcohol treatment and 30 hours of public service.

He also received one year of supervision for failure to reduce his speed in another Kane case filed on April 7, 2003, in Batavia.

Smith has prior convictions in Kane for making an improper left turn in front of oncoming traffic and operating an all-terrain vehicle on private land without the owner’s consent.
