Cougars snap losing streak

The Kane County Cougars are 1 win from clinching a Midwest League playoff spot.

The Cougars rallied with 4 runs in the eighth inning Monday night to defeat the Peoria Chiefs 5-4 at Elfstrom Stadium, snapping a four-game losing streak.

The Cougars have a 6-game lead over both Beloit and Wisconsin with seven games left, and they own the tiebreaker over both clubs. The Cougars trail Clinton by 3 games for the top playoff spot.

The Cougars trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth with two outs and nobody on base when Cheslor Cuthbert and Kevin David walked and Orlando Calixte singled to load the bases.

Jake Kuebler cleared the bases with a triple to left and scored on a throwing error when the ball got away at the plate.

The Chiefs answered with 2 runs in the top of the ninth against Chase Boruff to make it 5-4, but Boruff recorded his seventh save when he got the third out on a popup with the tying run at third base. Tyler Graham (1-0) had wiggled out of an eighth-inning jam and was credited with the win.

The Cougars scored the first run in the second on a bases-loaded walk by Jovan Pickett, their first lead in nearly 37 innings.
