The Greater Lindenhurst Lake Villa Area Fine Arts Council has announced the results of its “Vote for Your Favorite Bench” contest, which was held in July. First- through eighth-grade students were invited to check out all 34 benches and sponsors and vote for their favorites.

Ÿ “Most Informative Bench” was a tie between “Dreaming with Books” by artist Marsha Cairo, sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Villa District Library, and “Honoring the Civil War,” also by Cairo, sponsored by the Lake Villa Historical Society.

Ÿ “Most Creative Bench” was a tie between “C’ead Mile F’ailte” by artist Julie Adriansen, sponsored by Blackthorn Grill, and “Mexican Tile,” by artist Patricia Gipple, sponsored by Grande Jakes.

Ÿ “Most Colorful Bench” went to “Water Wonderful” by artist Michele Van Patten-Muzones, sponsored by Aqua Pool & Spa Pros.

Ÿ “Most Playful Bench” went to “Our Future is Blooming” by the Girl Scouts, sponsored by Kiwanis-Lindenhurst The Lakes.

Ÿ “Most Realistic Bench” went to “Twilight Cast Its Spell” by artist Edie Cogdill, sponsored by Northern Illinois Chiropractic.

Ÿ “Most Heartwarming Bench” went to “Everyday Animals” by artist Frank Fitzgerald, sponsored by James C. Mitchell Jr.

Ÿ “Most Sentimental Bench” went to “America the Beautiful” by artist Marsha Cairo, sponsored by North Shore Trust and Savings.

“Art on a Bench” is the first public art exhibit presented by the Greater Lindenhurst-Lake Villa Fine Arts Council.

The project goal was to bring local artists together with local business people to build a stronger sense of community, promote art and strengthen the relationship between residents and local businesses, along with giving the community a creative place to sit, rest, reflect and enjoy the place in which they live.
