Hanover Township Emergency Services recognizes volunteers

The Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit recently hosted a recognition dinner for its volunteers and their families to honor the service of a past member, a promotion of a current member and swearing in of eight new members.

“Our volunteers give up time from their families to train and assist first responders throughout the community,” said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. “Their service is a real asset to the community and we appreciate the hard work each volunteer puts into the unit.”

Former volunteer, and one of the founding members of the unit, Dick Nelson, was honored for his service with an appreciation award at the dinner of Aug. 10. Current member Annett Crane was promoted to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coordinator. Annett will be responsible for maintaining all EMS equipment and scheduling trainings for unit members.

The eight new members that were sworn in — Michael Dickey, Cody Conquest, Brandon Bucaro, Caleb Hanson, Phillip Olszewski, Joe Hojnacki, Dan Moreno and James Dexter — all went through a 90-day training and probationary period before becoming full members.

“Each member has to go through a rigorous training of CPR certification, first aid, weather spotting and advanced use of vehicles and equipment,” said Hanover Township Director of Emergency Services Dan Palmer.

Created in 2008, the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit is trained to respond to a wide range of emergencies and nonemergency events to either assist primary emergency responders or operate independently in times of natural and man-made disasters.
