Four arrested in South Elgin car burglary

South Elgin police are crediting a quick-thinking resident for helping authorities arrest four people — one of which is from Elgin — for breaking into a car early Sunday morning.

Zavion Wright, 29, of Maywood; Kevin Wright, 24, of Richton Park; Daniel Marshall, 25, of Richton Park, and Severiano Wright, 27, of Elgin, are each charged with felony burglary and criminal damage to property, according to police.

A conviction on the burglary charge carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison, but probation is an option.

The four are accused of breaking windows on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix in the 100 block of Arthur Avenue at about 7 a.m. Sunday and stealing a car stereo.

A resident heard the noise and called police, who stopped the four as they were leaving the area going south on Route 31, said Det. Sgt. Mike Doty, who noted the four are not suspects in other car burglaries.

“We had a citizen who got involved and let us know what was going on, which led to their quick apprehension,” Doty said.

It was not immediately clear if the Wrights were related to each other.

All four are due in court on Wednesday.
