Nobody solving our flooding problems

Over a week has passed since Lakeside Villas suffered through another solvable flooding problem. No indication from the elected officials at the village, Cook County, or Lakeside Villas as to what is forthcoming in immediate financial help or real action on solving the long-term problem of inadequate piping to drain the overflow.

Past studies about the problem produce nothing. Dredging the ponds produced only a drought-like appearance to the neighborhood. Too may weeds and reeds in the ponds, we have been told.

Plenty of initial TV coverage. Now interest has disappeared in the ebb and flow of Washington politicos getting face time in the debt crisis. At the Village meeting, flooding was hardly a topic of important discussion. Lots of finger pointing — at Lakeside Villas, at Cook County but no “Moses” to part the floodwaters and bring down the promise of seven plagues on the heads of our elected officials to force them take some effective steps.

Taxpayers need to know and see what our elected officials are doing with the money we send them to solve local problems.
