Sox put Quentin on DL, call up Viciedo

Before tonight’s game at Seattle, the White Sox placed Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder and recalled Dayan Viciedo from Class AAA Charlotte.

Quentin’s DL assignment is retroactive to Aug. 21.

Viciedo, 22, batted .297 (134-451) with 28 doubles, 20 home runs, 78 RBI and 60 runs scored in 118 games with Charlotte this season. The 5-foot-11, 230-pounder compiled a .365 on-base percentage and .492 slugging percentage while playing in 95 games in right field and 11 at first base. He ranks fourth in the International League in RBI.

He played in 38 games over two stints with the White Sox in 2010, hitting .308 (32-104) with 5 home runs and 13 RBI.

Quentin, who turns 29 on Sunday, sustained the injury making a diving catch on Aug. 20 vs. Texas. He is hitting .255 (107-419) with 31 doubles, 24 home runs and 77 RBI in 117 games this season.
