Rotary Club of Mundelein-Vernon Hills seeks young professionals for study exchange in Taiwan

The Rotary Club of Mundelein-Vernon Hills joins Rotarians of Northeastern Illinois in seeking outstanding young, professional business men and women to participate as members of a vocational study program.

The Group Study Exchange will visit northern Taiwan for four weeks from March 17 to April 16, 2012.

Applicants for this program must be at least 25 and no more than 40 years old before the departure date. They must work or live within boundaries of Rotary District 6440, which encompasses the area of Illinois north, west and northwest of Chicago.

District 6440 includes Lake County, eastern McHenry and Kane counties and northern Cook and DuPage counties. Applicants may not be a Rotarian or close relative of a Rotarian, must be a U.S. citizen, must have been employed full-time in a recognized business or profession for at least two years at the time of applying and plan to remain in the business or profession after the conclusion of the exchange.

Applications include an endorsement from the local Rotary Club and the applicant’s employer, as well as an essay of intent. They must be completed and returned by 6 p.m. Sept. 17 to Immediate Past President, Michael Flynn, 401 Quigley St., Mundelein, Il, 60060.

The GSE program, sponsored by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, strives to improve international understanding by enabling people from various countries to learn from each other on a personal level.

While abroad, team members will stay with Rotarian families to observe the host’s way of life, and the nation’s economic, social and cultural characteristics through discussions and travel throughout the Rotary district.

During the visit, the team members will spend a minimum of five days with their professional or business counterparts. Round trip transportation costs are paid by The Rotary Foundation. Housing, meals and travel during the visit are provided by the host Rotary District.

The Group Study Exchange will be held in partnership with Rotary District 3480 in northern Taiwan, and encompasses the Taipei metropolitan area, the capital city.

The Rotary Club of Mundelein-Vernon Hills meets from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Dover Straits restaurant on Route 45 in Mundelein for lunch and a speaker.

Membership is open to service oriented residents and workers in the area. Guests are welcome.
