Indictments coming in Terre Haute officer’s slaying

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Federal prosecutors are preparing to announce six indictments in connection with the fatal shooting of a Terre Haute police officer.

U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett is scheduled to hold a news conference Thursday morning at the Terre Haute Police Department at which he’s expected to announce the indictments of six Terre Haute residents in Officer Brent Long’s July 11 slaying.

Federal, state and local law enforcement officers who investigated Long’s killing will also attend the news conference.

The 34-year-old Long was fatally shot while helping arrest a wanted man at a Terre Haute apartment. Authorities say the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Long’s police dog Shadow was also shot but survived.
