Trickle-up poverty has to stop

I’m a retiree who never made more than $50,000 per year and a believer in the tea party principles. Fence Post writer Jean Alberti wants the rich to pay more taxes so welfare recipients will never have to work. The fact is, the top 1 percent of wage earners ($380,000 and over) already pay about 40 percent of the taxes. Those earning over $118,000 pay 70 percent of the income taxes.

President Obama’s favorite corporation, GE, pays no taxes. This trickle-up poverty has to stop. For those who think seniors are getting a free ride, try paying our health insurance. My wife and I each pay more than $200 per month for our Medicare insurance. Under Obama’s health care plan we will soon pay $400 each.

Norman Thomas, the socialist party candidate for president said in 1944, “I no longer have to run for president — the Democratic Party has adopted our principles.”
