Antioch man to run for county board seat

An Antioch man has announced he will run for the Lake County Board District 1 seat.

Peter Grant, a Democratic committeeman, said he wants to run on the November 2012 ballot for the seat held by Linda Pedersen. Right now, both candidates are unchallenged in their respective primaries, which are set March 2012.

District 1 represents Antioch, along with portions of Old Mill Creek, Lake Villa, and Fox Lake Hills.

Grant says his primary stance is to create a salary cap for part-time county board members, and create property tax breaks for senior citizens.

“The first thing I would like to see would be for the board to agree upon a path of reducing their own part-time salaries by 50 percent,” he said in a news release. “The savings could be used to help fund current staffing at Winchester House.”

Grant was not available for additional comment.

He ran unsuccessfully for the District 1 seat in 2008 when he was defeated by Pedersen. In that race, he garnered nearly 49 percent of the vote.

He’s hoping that by showing ways to reduce the cost of county government, he will pick up the votes needed to win.

“High property taxes continue to be among the most serious issues facing residents again this year,” he said in the release. “It’s time to get county government off the backs of people and businesses and back on track working for the people of Lake County.”
