Woman ordered to repay $12,000 to Libertyville employer

The former comptroller for a Libertyville business was ordered to pay more than $12,000 in restitution Tuesday after admitting she stole from the company for two years.

Theresa Krubel, 54, of Kenosha, Wis., was also placed on probation for three years and ordered to perform 150 hours of public service after pleading guilty to felony theft.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Marykay Foy said Krubel had a company credit card in connection with her employment at Handi Ramp, 510 North Ave.

Between March 2005 and April 2007, Foy said, Krubel made $12,781 in personal purchases with the card.

Krubel covered the misuse of the card by disguising payments as going to a company vendor, but the scheme was uncovered when a credit card statement arrived at the company while she was on vacation.

Associate Judge George Bridges ordered Krubel to repay the entire amount at a rate of not less than $500 per month.

Foy said Krubel could have faced up to five years in prison if she had been convicted after a trial.
