Geneva police will serve burgers at Tom & Eddie’s

As a special Tom & Eddie’s birthday event titled “Burgers and Badges,” uniformed officers from the Geneva Police Department will serve customers from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tom & Eddie’s in Geneva Commons, 1042 Commons Drive.Tom Eddie#146;s celebrates its one-year milestone on this date. The gourmet burger restaurant debuted a year ago, on Aug. 27, 2010, in Lombard.It#146;s all part of a fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois, which is strongly supported by law enforcement. And, for its birthday milestone, Tom Eddie#146;s will donate 10 percent of net sales for the day.In addition, from noon to 8 p.m., officers of the Geneva Police Department will have a 2011 Harley-Davidson parked under a tent in front of Tom Eddie#146;s Geneva and will sell $10 raffle tickets to win it. The motorcycle is a yellow and chrome Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.Funds raised will benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association began the Harley-Davidson raffle in 1998. To date, $830,000 has been raised for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.#147;Many of us have a strong interest in Special Olympics,#148; said Sgt. Dan Kott of the Geneva Police Department. #147;Our efforts are to help these special athletes who need our support. Yeah, we write tickets, but our purpose is to protect and serve.#148;Six winners will be drawn. At 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Special Olympics headquarters in Bloomington, each winner will be given a key, but only one key starts the Harley.
