Dancenter North to hold auditions for ‘Nutcracker’

The search is on for the cast of Lake County’s annual production of “The Magic of the Nutcracker,” produced by Dancenter North.

“Searching for the perfect cast can take weeks of auditions and casting sessions,” said Cheri Lindell, the producer and director of “The Magic of the Nutcracker.”

“We have a large cast of over 100 dancers, actors and specialty gymnasts. Our production is known for its great energy, brilliance and talent. Our goal is to always top what we achieved in the previous year.”

Auditions will begin with experienced ballet dancers ages 8 and older Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Dancenter North, 540 N. Milwaukee Ave., downtown Libertyville.

From those selected at the initial auditions, a casting process will occur over the next three weeks to choose the parts those dancers will perform. From these sessions, the coveted role of Clara is selected.

Gymnasts who are less than 5-feet tall will have an audition Sunday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. at Dancenter North. Rhythmic gymnasts are also sought at this time.

Boys to appear in the Party Scene will have an audition at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 18 also at Dancenter North. Boys ages 8 to 15 who are athletic and have acting ability are sought for these roles. Adults of all ages and sizes are also sought for the Party Scene characters.

The chosen cast members will be joined by a group of professional dancers, singers and actors to perform “The Magic of the Nutcracker” at Libertyville High School Dec. 3 and 4. The production continues at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan for performances Dec. 9 to 11.
