Outdoors notebook: Weekly fishing update

Here is this week's fishing update:

Lake Michigan: We had to sit out July to satisfy the deal makers in the controversial Lake Michigan perch fishing issue. Now it appears the once massive schools of yellow perch have chosen to become invisible and unavailable to the hook and liners. But-the king and coho salmon are still around in sufficient numbers. Waukegan charters are finding fish in 70-90 foot depths. Same is true for those boats heading out from Northpoint.

Fox Chain: It looked like we were going to have a bonanza week for Pistakee Lake walleyes, but then that fizzled too. It's the crappie and bluegill angling that's turned on, especially on the northern-most lakes.

Fox River: Smallmouth seekers seem to have scored fairly well near Batavia and Geneva in water close to shore. Look for the slack-water pools. Leeches, small minnows and plastics are working well.

Bangs Lake: Crappie activity decent, especially near the box channels. Largemouth action very good at sunrise.
