Warren fastpitch tourney fields 68 teams

Submitted by John Rossi

The seventh annual Warren Wave Wipeout Fastpitch Tournament, held July 22-24, was a huge success despite rain and thunderstorms each day.

Played at Warren Township Center in Gurnee, the tournament hosted 68 teams in five divisions (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U) for a three-day end-of-season tournament.

A Homerun Derby contest was held Friday night, medaling first-, second- and third-place winners in each division. This year, the tournament collected donations during the derby and gave a portion of the T-shirt sales to support the American Cancer Society.

The tournament weathered rain, lightening and thunderstorms delaying start times each day. But perseverance from all teams and the Warren Township Maintenance Field Crews, they were able to complete enough games to make Sunday’s bracket play a success. Congratulations to all of the competing teams and to the winners in each division.
