‘Poison’ on car forces Naperville home evacuations

A number of Naperville homes were evacuated as a precaution Wednesday afternoon when police found a man slumped over the wheel of a parked car with the word “Poison” written on it.

Emergency personnel responding to the vehicle at 25 W. 505 Hobson Road near the Goodrich Woods found a 49-year-old man moving inside the vehicle and the word “Poison” also written on a nearby tree, police said.

About 3:15 p.m., police said, the man tried to drive the vehicle but was ordered out and the DuPage County Bomb Squad was called to the scene to make sure the vehicle was not dangerous.

The incident is being considered a suicide attempt, and the man was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for an evaluation, police said.

Several residences near the vehicle were evacuated, and Hobson Road was closed between Johnson Drive and Oleson Drive while the bomb squad inspected the vehicle, which was determined to be safe.
