Des Plaines firefighters support blood drive

The Des Plaines Firefighters Union Local 4211 will join Operation North Pole and LifeSource Blood Center in hosting a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, 50 W. Oakton St.

LifeSource has issued a challenge to firefighters in an effort to increase the supply of donated blood. Eligible donors are encouraged to register online at www.lifesource.org (use sponsor code 089D) or call Barb Dabler, Operation North Pole, at (847) 987-8776 to schedule a donation appointment.

Each donor will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and food. Bags of sweet corn on the cob also will be available for purchase. A percentage of each purchase will go directly to Operation North Pole for charitable purposes.
