Des Plaines alderman to appear on ‘Check, Please!’

A familiar face from Des Plaines will guest appear next month on WTTW Channel 11’s popular restaurant review program, “Check, Please!”

Fourth Ward Alderman Dick Sayad recently taped an episode, which will air at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

Sayad, a food connoisseur and an avid fan of the show, applied online for a chance to be a guest reviewer nearly a year and a half ago. He heard back from the show’s producers a year ago and recently filmed for two days in Milwaukee with two other guests and the show’s host, Alpana Singh.

“They chose five different restaurants from various groups: fast food custard place, breakfast diner, German, fine dining, and a pub for lunch,” Sayad said. “I really enjoyed it. I really had a great time testing out the different foods up there in Wisconsin.”

The crew reviewed the restaurants’ food, service and ambience. Restaurant owners knew they were coming, Sayad said.

Sayad is not allowed to reveal the names of the five restaurants per the agreement he signed with the show’s producers.

He also wouldn’t say how the food fared to his discerning palate. For that, people will just have to watch the show.

“I was truthful,” he said. “We all got along very well. I hope they call me again.”
