Feds indict Aurora doctor for fraud

A doctor operating an Aurora medical clinic has been charged with federal tax and health care fraud.

Federal prosecutors announced the charges Friday against 65-year-old Joseph Tages of Plainfield.

Prosecutors claim Tages diverted nearly $800,000 in cash receipts from the Aurora Health Center he operated between 2004 and 2006 and failed to report a similar amount on his income taxes for those same years.

Additionally, prosecutors allege Tages defrauded health insurance providers out of “at least $10,000 for services he did not provide.”

Attempts to reach Tages’ attorney for comment were unsuccessful.

Tages is charged with filing false corporate and individual income tax returns, mail fraud and making false statements involving a health care benefit program.

The charges carry penalties ranging from three to 20 years in prison as well as $250,000 maximum fines.
