Man wanted in Minnesota, arrested in Hanover Park for DUI

Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon set bail at $100,000 Friday for a 25-year-old Streamwood man facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with a 1-year-old among his passengers.

Rafael Garcia-Rodriguez also has four outstanding warrants from Minnesota, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Walsh said during his bond hearing Friday.

Hanover Park police stopped Garcia-Rodriguez, of the 100 block of Seton Place, at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday, Walsh said. She said during Friday’s bond hearing that an officer noticed Garcia-Rodriguez’s car drifting over the centerline as it traveled north on Barrington Road.

After pulling the car over, the officer noticed Garcia-Rodriguez had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Walsh said. The officer also noticed an open can of beer in the vehicle, which contained a female passenger in the front seat and a 1-year-old in the back seat, Walsh said.

The baby was buckled into a child seat but the seat was not secured to the vehicle, Walsh said.

Police say Garcia-Rodriguez admitted drinking three or four beers. A blood-alcohol test indicated a reading of .226, nearly three times the legal limit, Walsh said. He also faces charges of endangering the life of a child, failure to secure a child and having open alcohol in his car, among others.

Walsh said Garcia-Rodriguez has three Minnesota warrants resulting from charges of driving while intoxicated or impaired from 1998, 2008 and 2009. He also has a warrant for a 2009 misdemeanor theft, she said.

Garcia-Rodriguez next appears in court on Aug. 29.
