Fort Hill Drive lane closures to cause delays

Naperville commuters are being urged to find a new way around Fort Hill Drive until the end of the month.

Crews began grinding the roadway Wednesday morning from 75th Street to Quincy Avenue to prepare for resurfacing to take place later in the month.

Project Engineer Rahat Bari said traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the contractor has the ability to close all but one lane.

“It is a narrow road so there may be periods of time when the contractor will set up a flagging operation where they will bring cars through one direction at a time,” Bari said. “But work at the major intersections, such as Ogden Avenue, 75th Street and Aurora Avenue will only be done outside the major rush hour.”

Despite the limitations, delays are likely so drivers are asked to use an alternate route if available.

Message boards are in place along Fort Hill Drive to keep motorists up-to-date on the progress of the project.

Bari said once this project is complete, later this month, a similar resurfacing project will be done in the West Highlands neighborhood.
