The Kane County Cougars are putting on a show for the ages Thursday night to pay homage to years of minor league baseball traditions in a “Night of 100 Promotions.”

A total of 100 promotions will be featured before, during and after the game in a night dedicated to the Veeck family.

Mike Veeck will be in attendance as the night honors several events started by his father Bill, a former White Sox owner known for his publicity stunts. Longtime baseball executive Roland Hemond will also be at the game.

“(Hemond) had mentioned to us that he’d be interested in attending a game here if we ever wanted him and (Veeck) to come out,” said Erin Wiencek, director of ticket operations.

With that incentive, Wiencek and Heather Mills, also part of ticket operations, came up with the idea for the night to honor them.

Fans will receive a complete list of all 100 promotions upon entering Elfstrom Stadium that evening, and should expect surprises and fun around every turn.

Some of the night’s highlights include: a Ballpark Shower, where fans can cool off during the game in a shower similar to the one installed by Bill Veeck in the outfield bleachers at Comiskey Park; Record Toss Contest, in which randomly selected fans will compete in a tribute to 1979’s Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park; and an Ivy Seed Giveaway to several fans to commemorate Wrigley Field’s ivy walls.

Also of note, longtime White Sox organist Nancy Faust will perform during the game, including the seventh-inning stretch with “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.

At some point during the night, Wiencek and Mills said, there will be a “surprise” promotion they have kept tightly under wrap. A ceremony will be held before the game to recognize Faust, Veeck and Hemond.

While it may seem like an astounding number of events for one night, Wiencek said that every Cougars game usually has about 50 promotions, making the challenge of coming up with 50 more slightly less daunting.

Promotions will start as soon as the gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:30 game in Geneva that has the Cougars facing the Peoria Chiefs, the Class A affiliate of the Cubs.
