Shred documents in Elk Grove Village

On Saturday, Aug. 13, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County will host a document destruction event as an additional service for residents in SWANCC member communities. ID’s will be checked for proof of residency.

It will be from 9-11 a.m. at Elk Grove village hall, 901 Wellington Ave. There is no cost to attend.

SWANCC residents drive up in their vehicles and workers will unload the paper into toter carts. The paper is then loaded into a truck on site and cross-shredded in minutes. The shredded documents are transported to Groot’s recycling facility in Elk Grove Village and baled before being recycled into new paper.

Since 2005, SWANCC has shredded over 658,000 pounds of paper from member communities.

Typical documents that can be shredded include medical forms, bank statements, personal files, retired tax forms and other documents. Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed.

“SWANCC’s goal is to provide convenient and environmentally sound programs to assist residents with recycling materials. Due to their efforts, old materials will be made into new products,” said Mary Allen, SWANCC Recycling and Education director.
