2 still hospitalized from Rolling Meadows fight

Two men remain hospitalized in medically induced comas after the early Monday morning fight outside a Rolling Meadows apartment complex.

Rolling Meadows police said Tuesday that a stabbing victim and another man who suffered a fractured skull were both at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Sgt. Thomas Gadomski said being able to interview the men is critical to the police investigation, and police hope they can do that today or Wednesday. Neither man has life-threatening injuries, he said.

Gadomski said police don't know how many people were involved in the fight on the 2300 block of Algonquin Parkway, other than there were a lot. Some lived in the apartment complex, but others were from outside Rolling Meadows.

“That's what is making this so hard,” Gadomski said. “We're talking to everyone in the world, but the two people we need to talk to we can't.”

He predicted more information might be available Thursday or Friday.

Police were called to the parking lot about 2:15 a.m. Monday. Two other men were taken to a hospital after the fight but were treated and later released. All four injured men are between 23 and 34 years old, said police.

Police Chief Dave Scanlan said Monday that most of the fight participants were intoxicated. One group was having a party outside at the complex, and another walked by after leaving a bar. He said he does not know what started the fight, and while there were gang members there, he did not think the fight was gang-related.
