University donates new ambulance to Evanston

EVANSTON — The mayor of Evanston has announced that Northwestern University is donating a new ambulance to the city.

The university, which is based in Evanston, is giving roughly $253,000 to cover the cost of the new ambulance. It will be equipped with a power cot, power oxygen lift and a heart monitor/defibrillator.

This isn't the first time Northwestern has contributed to the city's emergency response efforts. Northwestern donated $550,000 to the city in 2009 for the purchase of a new fire engine.

City officials say the new ambulance will replace one that the city plans to hold in reserve for use as needed.

Evanston's mayor says she's grateful for the donation.
