Community Relations Committee plans annual Senior Fair

LOMBARD, Illinois— “It's one event that is designed specifically for seniors, but in fact, anyone is welcome to attend,” said Lombard Village President William Mueller. Mueller is referring to the Village's annual “Senior Fair.”

This fall marks the seventh annual senior fair sponsored by the Village's Community Relations Committee. The fair is scheduled to take place on October 5 at the Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road. The fair runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

One of the main attractions is the Secretary of State's Mobile Driver's Services Facility, according to Lombard Trustee Keith Giagnorio, Chairperson of the Community Relations Committee. This service is always a great convenience for residents of all ages to take advantage of, he added.

In addition to the Secretary of State services that will be available, other vendors will also be participating, offering programs and services designed with seniors in mind. Dominick's Pharmacy will be offering free flu shots to those with Medicare Part B, as well as diabetes screenings, pneumonia shots and blood pressure screenings. Other local agencies will be participating as well and the Village will have staff members on-site available to register residents for “CodeRED,” the Village's emergency notification system.

Part of the senior fair is also recognizing Lombard seniors who have gone above and beyond in the community. This recognition is done with a “Senior of the Year” program. Nominees must have a Lombard mailing address and be 65 years of age or older. Nominations must include a brief statement, 50 words or less, on why the senior should be considered for this award, as well as a short biography of the person.

The nomination deadline is September 1. All nominations must be received prior to the deadline by the Village Manager's Office. The winners will be selected by the Community Relations Committee and will receive the Village President's Award. The “Senior of the Year” award winner will also be honored by riding in the 2012 Lilac Parade.

Nominations may be sent to: Village of Lombard, Village Manager's Office, Attention: “Senior of the Year” Award, 255 E. Wilson, Lombard, IL, 60148. Email nominations will be accepted at kottj@villageoflombard.org or by FAX at (630) 629-2374.

Anyone with questions regarding the senior fair may contact Joelyn Kott, Communications Coordinator, at the email address listed above or at (630) 620-5718.
