Palatine baseball standout Eric Scheuermann commits to Bradley

Eric Scheuermann took a brave step forward in his baseball career with Bradley on Saturday.

The Palatine senior-to-be pitcher made a verbal commitment with the Braves and head coach Elvis Dominguez and pitching coach John Corbin.

“Going on campus and looking around there was great,” Scheuermann said of his visit last Tuesday to Peoria. “Everything about it was awesome. I loved the baseball facilities and the coaches.”

The hard-throwing right-hander said Bradley first saw him at Stevenson’s junior showcase in June and talked to him when the contact period began July 1. Scheuermann said other Division I schools showed recruiting interest but everything fit right at Bradley.

“It happened pretty quickly and it all came down pretty fast,” Scheuermann said of achieving a goal he had since his freshman year. “In the end it was a good decision.”

Scheuermann, who is leaning toward studying business, was promoted to the Palatine varsity during his sophomore season. Last spring he was 3-6 and had 43 strikeouts in 50⅓ innings as Palatine won Mid-Suburban West and regional titles.

Bradley has four Mid-Suburban League players on its roster — juniors Mike Tauchman (Fremd), Jason Leblebijian (Prospect) and Dave Compitello (Schaumburg) and sophomore Eric Paulson (Fremd).
