2 dead, 2 in critical after I-88 crash

Two people are dead and two are in critical condition after a four-vehicle accident Saturday evening in a westbound lane of I-88 near Lisle, according to Illinois State Police.

The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. between I-355 and Route 53, near the 130 mile marker, authorities said.

Six people were in the crash, which involved a Porsche convertible, a Toyota Corolla sedan, a Ford Windstar van and a Mazda station wagon.

The front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, Master Sgt. David Schneider said. Another passenger of the same car was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville and died a short time later.

The deceased were one man and one woman, Schneider said.

Two other victims were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and to Edward Hospital, said Capt. Jay Caron, battalion chief of the Lisle Fire Department.

He added that the four victims, all adults, were trapped in two of the vehicles after the crash. No further identification of the victims was available late Saturday.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
