Warren Wave makes splash at USSSA World Series

The Warren Wave 15U travel softball team made another splash.

The Wave placed second at the USSSA 15U World Series in Des Moines, Iowa, last Saturday.

Last summer, the team won the ASA Nationals at the 14U level in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Wave went 10-2 in last week’s tournament facing teams from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas and Indiana. The Wave played seven games in one day, in 95-degree heat. The team went 6-1, despite being down a pitcher due to an injury suffered in an earlier pool game. The Wave pulled out a nine-inning game (2 international tie breakers) Saturday night to get into the championship game.

The Wave is part of Warren Township Girls Softball and its team members include: Melissa Anderson, Sam Belletini, Jazmine Bonke, Selaina Coronado, Amber Egan, Jill Fox, Nicole Geissberger, Shannon McKeon, Kelly Majewski, Amy Ricci, Lisiann Rodriquez, Michelle Vasen and Jana Wagner.

The Wave is coached by Lou Belletini, Mike McKeon, Scott Bonke, Craig Ricci and Doug Wagner.

“The ladies really played their hearts out on Saturday in the heat,” Mike McKeon said. “We couldn’t be prouder of them. Especially in light of the fact that they did almost the same thing the year before in Indiana. We all thought that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and then they almost pulled it off again one year later. This team is mostly made up of incoming freshmen, sophs and juniors that will be playing for Warren varsity softball over the next few years. The future of Warren softball looks bright.”
