Here’s one vote for citizen of the year

Now here’s a nominee for our village’s “Citizen of the Year.” On July 28 at 1:30 a.m., some of the streets of Carol Stream looked like a war zone. Some have claimed a tornado went through the area.

At 7 a.m. I was ambling down my driveway to assess our big broken tree limbs and to get the morning paper when a car pulled up to the curb. The man got out and approached me. I recognized the man, whom I had never met or even talked to before. He picked up my newspaper and handed it to me and then we talked for several minutes about all the damage in the village.

As he was leaving he bent down and with his bare hands he proceeded to clear away the leaves and dirty debris that was clogging the storm drain at the end of my driveway. Now you’re wondering, who was this man who was already up and driving about at 7 a.m. looking at damage?

Would you believe it, this was our mayor, Frank Saverino? Can you believe it was our mayor who was cleaning off the storm drain on my street? Thanks, from an appreciative resident; you’ve got my vote for that award.
