Time is right for prime perching

I stuck my neck out with comments to my Sunday-morning radio show audience regarding Lake Michigan perch fishing, which resumed Monday.

I reported that perching will be excellent even though water temperatures were a tad warmer than usual.

To make a long story short, perching is outstanding all up and down the lakefront. Some of the best action comes from Montrose Harbor, Waukegan Harbor and 77th street.

Fox Chain: Aside from killing electric power and knocking trees down, the area storms we’ve experienced have brought good water flow to the Chain and apparently turned on the walleyes. Pistakee and Petite Lakes are good for walleyes, while Bluff Lake rates a close third.

Fox River: Evening hours are good periods for smallies at a number of spots. Higher water levels have once again brought fish closer to shoreline areas.

Bangs Lake: Very good crappie fishing in and just outside the channels. The best bite is at night on slip floats and small minnows.

Lake Geneva: Excellent largemouth bite at sunrise in 10-15 feet of water.
