Streamwood firefighters fix gas leak

Streamwood firefighters early Wednesday morning worked to stabilize a building weakened by earlier storm winds and experiencing a major gas leak. They were first called at 1:35 a.m. with a report of a possible gas explosion at 1800 S. Park Ave. Roofing materials and bricks were scattered around the area. After investigation, it was determined that no explosion occurred, but that the earlier storm had done significant damage to the roof and the natural gas supply to a rooftop heating unit. Damage was estimated at $50,000. Streamwood firefighters responded to 18 other storm-related incidents Tuesday night.
