Alexian Bros. donate $100,000 for Harper scholarships

Alexian Brothers Health System has agreed to donate $100,000 to Harper College to set up a scholarship program to train bilingual nurses. Demand for bilingual nurses has skyrocketed, especially for Hispanics, who represent about 15 percent of the country’s total population but only 2 percent of all registered nurses, according to the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. Alexian Brothers Health System CEO Mark Frey and Harper College President Kenneth Ender signed the funding agreement Wednesday at Harper College in Palatine.
