Work continues on historic Sycamore railroad depot

SYCAMORE — Work is scheduled to be complete this fall on a historic 130-year-old railroad depot in the northern Illinois city of Sycamore.

The Daily Chronicle in DeKalb reports ( http://bit.ly/nIws60 ) the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad depot has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. Work on the building started in January.

Sycamore Mayor Ken Mundy says the building is iconic and has "many possibilities." The city wants to use the depot for civic or nonprofit groups.

Sycamore city manager Bill Nicklas says work is scheduled to finished by the end of September.

The city is using grant money and tax funds to pay for renovations and repairs. The building was last used as a train depot in the 1930s and later was a bus station.
