Walk-off homer beats Cougars

Chris Edmondson rocketed a 2-2, two-out pitch onto the right-field deck in the bottom of the ninth, breaking up a pitchers duel and giving the Quad Cities River Bandits a 3-1 victory over the visiting Kane County Cougars on Sunday in Davenport, Iowa.

On one of the warmest days of the year with temperatures nearing 100 degrees on the field, the Cougars’ Greg Billo pitched into the seventh inning while mound opponent Boone Whiting took his club into the eighth.

Quad Cities grabbed the early lead when Kolten Wong delivered a 3-2 pitch into the same area as the eventual game-winner.

Brett Eibner’s ninth home run of the season would later tie the game leading off the fourth.

Billo allowed just 1 run while striking out five and walking just a pair of batters, keeping his league-best ERA at 1.48.

Waves 2, Red Stars 1:The Chicago Red Stars and the Orange County Waves provided plenty of drama before Tanya Taylor#146;s 101st-minute goal that proved to be the difference as the Waves won in overtime to earn the 2011 Women#146;s Premier Soccer League National Championship at Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle.Taylor, named the WPSL Championship MVP, got behind the Red Stars#146; defense, which attempted to put her in an offside position. But the pass from Waves (and former Red Stars) midfielder Brittany Klein was timed perfectly, and Taylor did the rest for the winning goal.
