Primrose School invites guests to open house

The owners of the recently opened Primrose School in South Elgin are ready to show off their new facility and are inviting the community to an open house.

Although the school at 450 Briargate Drive opened in July to children six weeks to 6 years old, owner Laura Daniel said, the open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday will mark the school's official opening.

“We opened July 11, but that was a soft opening to give us the chance to solidify operations before school starts at the end of August,” said Daniel, who owns the franchise with her husband Kurt Daniel. “We're getting ready for the fall and ramping up for the week of Aug. 22.”

The open house will feature entertainment for children and information for interested parents — and a free lunch provided by Culvers.

Primrose is an Atlanta-based national chain with more than 230 franchises across 20 states.

The South Elgin school, which moved into the space vacated when the Goddard School closed its doors, is licensed to enroll 130 students in eight classrooms. Daniel said the school is accepting applications for the fall semester.

Parents who already have enrolled their children tout the school's balanced curriculum that emphasizes character development and leadership skills.

“It's not just a day care,” said Anne Epsom, whose 5-month-old son, Calvin, attends the school. “They are actually trying to educate and advance the knowledge of the child.”

Epsom said the school already has exposed Calvin to sign language, music and art projects.

The Daniels will open a second Primrose School in Algonquin in 2012. Meanwhile, a third Chicago-area campus is under construction in Naperville.
